![]() The existing photographs of these wonderful creatures are all in black and white: colour photos were expensive and very few of us had cameras that used colour film. Our invited guests looked very dapper in their Sunday-best suits.Īt winter carnival time, Mac ’62 crated some lovely snow sculptures such as a gigantic pink elephant one year and a huge green-tinged dragon another. We had such fun decorating the common room for dancing and wearing our lovely formal gowns. ![]() In December, Mac girls were allowed to invite boys to the Mac Hall formal and even to entertain them in their rooms, provided that the lights were left on and the doors left open. In fourth year, we had a permanent key, but the thrill of staying out late had paled somewhat by then. ![]() In second year, we were allowed a few more keys. Only twice in a semester were we allowed to sign our a key to stay out later. Our class was a large one – 60 girls – and we all lived in Mac hall together under the watchful eye of a “house mother.” What fun we had that first year, even though the residence doors were locked at 11 p.m. In 1958, all first-year students lived in residence, even those whose homes were in Guelph. ![]() For more formal occasions, it was essential that we be all decked out in hats and gloves. Plaid skirts, bobby sox and saddle shoes were prominent in our first class photo.
